AROUND CAYCE, SPRINGDALE & WEST COLUMBIA

Doug Allen of Adluh Flour will be at State Street Trading Company on State Street in West Columbia Oct. 5, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Adluh has been voted the most iconic symbol of the Columbia area.

Allen will give a brief talk on the history of Adluh and he will give away an Adluh gift basket to the lucky winner.

Photographer Jim Cheatham will be showcasing his artwork of Adluh and other iconic buildings and structures in the area.

Shrimp and Adluh grits will be served along with other goodies, plus beer and wine.

The Cayce Heritage Day of Unity is a great event for all ages that you won’t want to miss. It’s at the Cayce Historical Museum Oct. 13, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

The Cayce Heritage Day of Unity will feature reenactors from the Revolutionary War, The Civil War, World Wars I and II, as well as Native American Reenactors. The day will also include face painting, flintknapping, and great food and beverages.

The students, teachers and families of Cayce Elementary School have collected more than 3,000 bottles of water as a part of the Cayce Cares Bottled Water Drive. The water will be donated to the victims of Hurricane Florence and the resulting floods. The school is accepting donations through Oct. 5.

The Springdale Police Department hosted Springdale’s 7th annual National Night Out last Tuesday. The celebration included a performance by the Springdale Elementary School choir, followed by dances from Silverjax Cheer and Tumbling, Goins Dance, and Rhythmics Performing Arts.
