Around ChApin & irmo

Fall is just around the corner! When the cooler weather arrives, it will beckon us outdoors to enjoy nature. The Midlands boasts of many local parks within an hour’s drive. The Saluda Shoals, Crooked Creek, and the Palmetto Trail will make it easy to enjoy the fall colors and cooler weather. For more information on the parks in the area, see www.palmettoconservation.org

The Okra Strut is nearly here! The festivities begin Friday, September 27, and the parade is Saturday at 9 am. This 46th annual event will have fun for the entire family.

There are jobs available in the Town of Irmo and the Town of Chapin. Irmo has a part-time bailiff position open every Wednesday from 3 pm to approximately 6 pm. Call Associate Judge Mrs. Kim Hoffman at (803) 781-7050 for more information. The town of Chapin has a job opening for Town Clerk and Zoning Director. Call 803-345-2444 for more details.

If you like sailing boats and scavenger hunts, Chapin has the perfect combination for you. The Crooked Creek Art League has a scavenger hunt with the new “Arts Sail into Chapin” project with the 13 beautiful sailboats on display around the Town of Chapin. A scavenger hunt brochure can be picked up at the Chamber of Commerce and local stores.

The Greater Chapin Community Endowment will hold The Fall For Chapin fund-raiser October 12. For more information, email geraldmeetze@yahoo.com

Chapin’s 4th Annual Fall Art Festival will be October 5 in conjunction with the Chapin Farmers Market on Clark Street. It will run from 9:30 am to 1 pm. Go and enjoy the arts, crafts, and good food!
