Flu is spreading in South Carolina faster than ever.

The SC Department of Health and Environmental Control reported the 10th flu death of the year this week.

None were yet reported in Lexington County.

DHEC reported more than 300 patients have been admitted to hospitals, most of them over age 65. 26 children under age 5 were also admitted.

DHEC urged those who have not yet received flu shots to get them to deter the spread of the virus.

6 deaths were reported in the Upstate with 2 each in the Pee Dee and Lowcountry, according to DHEC.

Officials reported 2.6 million US flu cases. 23,000 were admitted to hospitals and 1,300 died.

Most have resulted from the influenza B/Victoria virus.
