Harry D. Briggs of Dunkirk, NY, 80, died March 1, 2021, at the Chautauqua Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

He was the father of MaryJo Briggs-Austin of Irmo.

He was born in Dunkirk March 19, 1940, the son of the late Clarence and Mary (Desmond) Briggs.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Joan M. Briggs, his other children Michael (Laurie) Briggs of Dunkirk, Edward Briggs of Florida and Jody (Don) Falkner of Cassadaga; and his brother, Clifford (Kathy) Briggs.

He was self-employed as Harry D. Briggs Tax Services. He was known around town as The Tax Man, aka the Bean Counter.

He enjoyed coaching Little League, helping with Boy Scouts and chaperoning at Camp Gross and Camp Merz.

Harry helped raise his grandchildren, would pick them up after school and cared for them when they were sick. Summers were spent with more than 6 grandchildren at a time. He committed his life to helping his children succeed as parents and become productive people in the community.

He had a love for dogs and welcomed many fur babies into the Briggs family.

Due to covid-19 restrictions, a memorial will be planned at a later date. Arrangements are by the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
