Hen’s Night Out at The FARM 1780 invites Lexington ladies to let loose

Hey, ladies, feeling a little stressed out? That summer to-do list getting you down? Need to find somewhere without kids and spouses and work stress for a bit? You might just be a hen in need of a night out.

Thankfully, The FARM 1780 on Corley Mill Road wants to let you out of the coop this Thursday with their Hen’s Night Out event.

What is Hen’s Night Out, exactly? Well, it’s based on an idea that the owner of The FARM 1780, Brett Flashnick and his wife, McKenzie, had on a trip to Key West, Fla. While in Key West, they saw an image in a bathroom of the historic Sloppy Joe’s bar, which inspired them to create this series of events at The FARM.

They half-jokingly call it a “drinking with chickens event” but it’s really just an excuse to get together with friends and family, enjoy the outdoors and experience fun on The FARM.

Each Hen’s Night Out ticket includes a farm-crafted grazing board with farm-fresh fruit, veggies, artisan cheeses and other items as well as bottomless wine (wine chosen to complement the board).

For this specific Hen’s Night Out (The FARM 1780 hosts several throughout the year), guests can enjoy several refreshing summer cocktails using a mix of farm-grown items, including fresh herbs, edible flowers and house made syrups.

This event runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and admission is $49. Men are welcome, The FARM says, as long as they can keep up with the hens.

Events like this are a perfect way to spotlight The FARM 1780’s unique presence in Lexington.

Flashnick actually inherited the family property in 2017. The family property had always been a place where the eldest family member lived, and Brett’s grandparents had shared with him that the land was meant to provide for the family, as it had for over seven generations at the time he was told these stories.

Brett and his wife were the first generation to inherit the property in their 30s. In generations past, the person inheriting the property was of retirement age and thus had more time to run the farm, but for a young couple, it was more difficult, and the financial burden of the farm brought them to a crossroads; they could sell the farm or find a way to move forward, creating events that brought both public attention and much-needed funds to keep the farm running.

Now you can enjoy all manner of public events at The FARM 1780, not just Hen’s Night Out, but summer camps, student visits throughout the school year, pick-and-play events, holiday celebrations, an annual Harvest Dinner (one of the most popular events on their calendar) and much more.

But let’s get back to the important part: Thursday night, the hard-working ladies of Lexington (and some of the braver men) can enjoy refreshing summer cocktails and farm fresh food in bucolic surroundings for less than the price of a typical date night. Happy henning!
