Hollow Creek begins fall meetings

Hollow Creek Community Club began fall meetings last week after taking the summer off. At the kick-off meeting, members brought covered dish meals, desserts and beverages to enjoy prior to the business meeting.

This fall, members will have a barbecue chicken fundraiser October 5, 11 am-3 pm. Guest speaker at the meeting was local financial planner Stewart Smith.

Members whose birthdays were celebrated are Nell Hair, Mary Smith, Frank Whittle, Bobbi Lowry, Dale Swygert, and Dan Tinman. Members who were celebrating anniversaries were W.C. and Paula Miller, Pat and Monroe Fulmer, and Dean and Betty Baulder. The club acknowledged a new members James and Ann Hodges, Mitch and Caitlyn Koon and Hettie Spencer.

Our Gilbert-Summit Branch Library fall reading programs are underway. Weekly Toddlertime, Preschool Storytime, Tweenscene and Books and Beyond programs encourage children to develop reading skills. Toddletime is an interactive program for babies, toddlers and their caregivers. The children will enjoy books, lap rhymes, fingerplays and songs. Preschool Storytime introduces preschoolers to literature with storytelling, poetry and songs. Books and Beyond and Tweenscene programs incorporate crafts, movies, gaming, literature and more. Bullying is never

the way to treat anyone. Some Gilbert Middle School students attended the Anti-Bullying Summit at the SC Department of Education. GMS students learned anti-bully strategies by listening to different speakers. This experience helped them to work on their on Anti-Bully Program for GMS.

Congratulations to Gilbert High School Quarterback Jy Tolen who was named the Midlands Offensive Player of the Week. Tolen was given this award at the Touchdown Club.  

Pond Branch United Methodist Church invites you to its annual talent show September 22 at 5 pm. The church will have its Fall Festival October 5, 11 am-2 pm. The church is at 1913 Pond Branch Road. For information, call 657-5481.

Good Hope CME Church announced the 147th Session of the Carolina Regions Annual Conference assigned the Rev. Faye R. Houston for another year. Houston completed 10 years as pastor of Good Hope in December, 2018. She will celebrate her 11th anniversary at Good Hope CME Church this December. Houston is the second longest-serving pastor in the 152th year history of Good Hope. The church is at 1032 Saint Paul’s Church Road in Gilbert.
