Honor breast cancer survivors and those supporting their fight

Posted

A cancer diagnosis is life changing. Yet surrounding the survivors is a circle of care — family, friends and health care providers who support, encourage and guide them along their cancer journey.

From detection and treatment to recovery and life after ringing the bell, the Lexington Medical Center Foundation is here to help. Its cancer care programs and resources meet many different needs and focus on holistic support for our patients.

Throughout the month of October, they’re celebrating cancer survivors and shining a light on the special behindthe-scenes heroes who support them.

Join them by making a gift to the Circle of Care campaign. Your donation can be made in honor or in memory of a survivor, caregiver or health care provider and can include a photo on our tribute wall.

Donations benefit the Foundation’s cancer programs, including the Crystal Smith Breast Cancer Fund and the Cancer Care Fund.

How Your Donation Helps

A donation to the Circle of Care campaign supports the following programs and servicesfor cancer patients at Lexington Medical Center:

• 3-D Mammography provides vital early detection of breast cancer that can save lives and improve treatment options; screenings are available to underserved patients through the Foundation.

• The Cancer Care Fund provides in-need patients with emergency financial assistance while they undergo treatment and supports many of the Foundation’s cancer care programs at Lexington Medical Center.

• The Crystal Smith Breast Cancer Fund helps provide breast cancer patients with wigs, mastectomy bras and post-surgical kits at no cost.

• Becky’s Place is a specialized boutique at Lexington Medical Center that helps every woman feel beautiful, even while she’s in the fight of her life! Certified fitters find the right breast prostheses, wigs and specialty clothing for women with breast cancer.

• Cancer Care Bags provide needed comfort items and support for infusion patients as they begin treatment.

• Losing Is Not an Option Support Group helps patients and families alleviate stress and depression by providing information about a broad range of topics related to a cancer diagnosis.

• The Cancer Center Resource Room at Lexington Medical Center hosts support groups and gives patients and caregivers a comfortable space away from the clinical setting with access to helpful information and materials curated by oncology staff.

• Cancer Transitions is a first-of-its-kind program in the Midlands that is free and designed to help cancer survivors make the transition from active treatment to post-treatment care.
