Warm weather is here! Flowers are blooming and new leaves on the trees are a refreshing bright, spring green. The oak trees in my back yard are in a quite a quandary, considering that they still have some of their old fall leaves. The new ones are much prettier and make me smile!

Irmo loves its trees! The Town has been declared a 2018 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation. This is the 10th year Irmo has had this honor.

Trees properly planted and maintained help beautify neighborhoods, increase property values, reduce home cooling costs, remove air pollutants and give birds a place to sing and raise their fledgling babies! Congratulations to the Town of Irmo. All of your trees are smiling also!

More congratulations to Von Wessinger, Bob Shealy, Rodney Mayers, Stephen Stellfox, and Betsy Amick for being inducted into The 2019 Chapin Athletic Hall of Fame. A banquet will be held August 24, 6-9 pm at the Chapin Town Hall. To purchase tickets, call Matt Barber at 803-873-6759

The buzz about bees will be the topic of the Chapin Garden Club’s meeting April 24, 11 to noon, at 103 Columbia Ave. Danny Cannon, a local beekeeper will discuss interesting facts about bees, honey and more. To reserve your space at this free event, call Cindy Chin at 803-932-4002.

The Screaming Eagles and the Town of Chapin have planned A Community Thank You Day April 27, 10 am-1 pm. The free event will have face painting, live music, food, snow cones and more at the Chapin Town Hall.

enjoy Irmo’s first-ever International Festival at Irmo Town Park April 28, 1-4 pm. Food trucks, international booths, and more will be there for family fun.

You can order a bag of delicious Vidalia onions from the Chapin Ruritan Club. The last day for ordering is April 24 for delivery May 4.
