Irmo’s most famous festival next week

The Irmo Okra Strut begins September 28.

The free, two-day event will feature a street dance, a new dining experience, one of the largest parades in South Carolina, arts and crafts, rides, amusements, live bands and entertainment, a huge variety of food, and more than 100 local vendors.

Friday, September 28, gates open at 5 p.m. Saturday, September 29, parade starts at 9 a.m. and gates open at 10 a.m. The festival is at Irmo Community Park, 7507 Eastview Dr. Irmo.

There is no admission to enter, but fees do apply for rides, amusements and concessions.

Friday will feature a Ride all Night wristband for $15. Free parking will be provided with shuttle rides to and from the festival.

Local favorite, The Root Doctors with opening act Black Water Rhythm and Blues Band will play around 6 p.m. Friday.

Saturday, The Weight Band and SC native Rob Crosby will play.

This Okra Strut is put on for the community by the community.

All funds raised by the festival are put back into the area through charitable contributions to local civic and school organizations, for scholarships and improvements of public areas.
