Cameron Champ’s post victory interviews sets up the lesson for this week.

The California event was played approximately 60 miles from where his grandfather taught him how to play golf. The PGA Tour sophomore’s grandfather has recently been placed in the care of hospice and is in extremely poor health.

The stress, anxiety, and emotions have taken its toll on the entire family, especially Cameron. Considering he is truly a hometown hero, the week was heart-wrenching but Cameron, handled the entire situation as, he was named, a “Champ.”

“I wasn’t thinking much so my mind was clear,” commented Champ after his second PGA Tour victory.

In golf, no thinking, along with low levels of care, can be the absolute best place to be mentally.

I have you ever started out so poorly you just wanted to quit, give up, and walk in? However, the distance to the clubhouse is so great, it’s not worth walking in so you just keep swinging.

Then, when it really doesn’t matter, bam, the next swing it’s ‘Purina’, then it’s the ‘stripe show’, and now you can’t miss a shot? You finish strong but completely dazed and ask yourself, ‘What just happened?’

The answer is golf.

Now, since you are inspired to go play, you might think about LinRick. I was out last week and the golf course is absolutely beautiful. The fairways and greens are in pristine condition and there is much definition.

Russell Breedon, the golf course architect, got it right. The first hole, a par 5 is a fun, making a good start possible, and the last is a fun par 4, making a strong finish achievable.

What makes golf holes fun? A framed beautiful view from the tee and plenty of room for your T-shot. The first impression is representative of what’s to come and the last makes you want to come back.
