Thanks to Steve Neese, Sam and Beverly Jackson, and Kay Collings for placing flags on the veterans graves at Oaklawn Cemetery for Veterans Day.

Lexington 1 teachers of the year include Forts Pond Elementary STEM teacher Helen E. Siceloff, Pelion Elementary 2nd Grade teacher Nicole H. Shumpert, Pelion High Special Education teacher Traci D. Holcomb, and Pelion Middle 8th Grade Science teacher Jennifer L. May.

These teachers will submit an application to be judged. The 2 teachers with the highest scores will become the finalists who compete for District Teacher of the Year. The celebration of all of the Teachers of the Year and the announcement of the new District Teacher of the Year will take place March 31, 2020, at the Lexington 1 Performing Arts Center at River Bluff High School.

Pelion Library hosts technology training Nov. 20 at 10:30 am for ages 18 and up. Registration is required. Storytime is November 20 at 11 am for ages 1-4 years. Tween Extreme meets November 19 at 3:30 pm for a Pet Adoption program. Every pet deserves a loving home and your new best friend is waiting for you. Meet adorable pets, learn how to best care for them and minimize problem behaviors. Presented in partnership with Lexington County Animal Services, this event is for grades 4-7. Spine Crackers Book Club meets November 20 at 3 pm. This month the reading is “A Woman is No Man” by Etaf Rum. This event is for ages 18 and up. TeenScene meets November 21 at 6 pm to make candy sushi. Teens will use their favorite candies and sugary confections to create sweet, stunning sushi. Winner takes all in this tasty competition. This event is for grades 6-12.

Last days to sign up for Powder Puff football are November 17 and 18. Practice begins November 20 at 3:45.

Cross Country State meets at the Carolina Cup Facility in Camden at 9:35 am for boys; 11 am for girls.
