Meals on Wheels still delivered daily

Posted

Our daily lives have changed dramatically because of the corona virus outbreak. Disruptions to everyday life have included empty restaurants, stores, gyms, school closings, libraries, social gatherings, and worship services online.

However, one community service that has not been disrupted is our Meals on Wheels program for homebound seniors. Director Donna Neel of the Gilbert-Summit Senior Center, tells us Meals on Wheels will still be delivered daily. She said it is important for our seniors to have a nutritious daily meal. But the senior center is closed until further notice. She said the center’s staff will be working and meals will be ready daily for volunteers to deliver. Volunteers are welcome to help deliver the meals. For information, call 803-892-5745.

COTTON BRANCH FARM Sanctuary is closed to the public until further notice. Quarantine precautions are in place due to the corona virus and the farm is working on rescheduling future events. The farm is concerned about having a supply of feed for all its residents. CBFS is a nonprofit organization that still needs “Back-Up Boosters” to commit to a one-time gift of $20 or more to help them keep enough food and supplies. They are currently still having online auctions and monthly sponsors for the farm animals. For information ,visit their Facebook page or call (803) 381-0051.

SC DEPARTMENT OF Natural Resources cancelled the “Deer Scoring” at Prices Country Store due to the corona virus outbreak. This event normally draws deer hunters from all over the state. No date has been set for the scoring.

Prices Country Store wants their customers to know it will deliver their orders if needed. The store also extends a big thank you to the ones who willingly helped them load posts, fencing, feed and offered to deliver supplies to those in need.

PRIOR TO VIRUS-RELATED closings, Hollow Creek Community Center members met for their monthly meeting. The guest speaker was Michael Benton, D.C., with Peach Orchard Family Chiropractic. He spoke to the members on ideas for preventive care and chiropractic alternatives.

HCCC members with birthdays were recognized. Happy birthday wishes went to Jerry Griffin, Brandon Rice, Patty Gaylord, Susan Lucas, Larry Philbin, and Caitlyn Koon.

Happy anniversary wishes went to Tim and Rebecca Koon and Larry and Debra Philbin.

Diane Jumper, Brian LeeVan, Debbie Philbin and Delle Price prepared the March meal and Pat Fulmer gave the devotions. For information on joining the Hollow Creek Community Club call 803-892-6501.
