Mission Lexington gets $8k in donations

Midlands Gives Day was in high gear May 7.

Local supporters donated $8,438 to Mission Lexington for their undergarment ministry.

It’s a new program that provides new underwear, bras and socks for women and children. It’s just one of many ministries at Mission Lexington.

What else does Mission Lexington do?

Executive Director Robin Bowers says there is always something new.

A pet food drive is underway to help senior citizens take care of their pets.

Pets can be so important to some seniors that they make sure their pets are fed before they feed themselves.

There is also a linen drive to help people who have moved out of shelters into a more permanent living arrangement.

Registration for the Cadet Program is underway. This is the 2nd year of the program structured to help kids learn about giving back.

Last year kids from all socioeconomic levels and ages attended.

There are 3 groups, elementary school, middle school and high school. The boys and girls participate in a variety of service-oriented activities both at the main facility and off campus.

A Mommy and Me program allows the kids to help mom (or dad) shop for underwear and other clothing items.
