One college campus found a way to honor a dear collegue and friend.

Midlands Technical College has dedicated the president’s executive board room on its Beltline Campus as the Dr. Peter E. Sercer, Sr. Executive Board Room.

Sercer passed away last year. He had served as a Midlands Technical College Commissioner for more than 26 years and is the only MTC Commissioner Emeritus.

“He was a mentor, a leader, and a friend. He was a loved and respected member of the MTC family,” said MTC President Dr. Ronald. L. Rhames.

“It will be an honor to always see his name on the board room.”

He had other ties to the Lexington County community as well.

After serving 26 years in the Air Force, Sercer was the Director of the Irmo High School Air Force JROTC program for 22 years.

He helped created the Irmo High School Celebrate Freedom Gardens and Courtyard, which has been dedicated in his honor.

At the MTC dedication ceremony Sercer’s wife Leslie Sercer and Fort Jackson’s Command Sergeant Major Jerimiah E. Gan helped unveil the room’s new lettering bearing Sercer’s name. United States Senator Lindsay Graham praised the dedication.

“Colonel Sercer served his country and his community with honor and distinction,” said Senator Graham.

“He had the heart of a public servant and was a dedicated teacher and patriot. What a wonderful and fitting tribute that MTC has chosen to honor him in this special way.”
