Want to hear interesting stories about Lexington? Check out the next Murders and Mysteries Tour given by the Lexington County Museum.

Saturday night Mikel Smith and Bobbie Gregory of Lexington say the tour was a huge success and held their interest the entire hour and a half.

Starting at the Icehouse Amphitheater, they proceeded to Cribb’s Sweet Shop where Museum Director JR Fennell set the stage. He told of the small girl’s ghost being mysteriously there and similar stories followed. The large turnout was split with Patricia Shandor taking the 2nd group. Mikel says the guides were knowledgeable and entertaining.

Intriguing were St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church cemetery, where a murder victim was buried, and the old court house where notorious trials were held. The drizzle of rain just enhanced the stories and ominous atmosphere. We’ll let you know when the next tour is scheduled.

Our Lexington Chamber’s Business Over Breakfast was Tuesday, July 13.

Mike White of Splash Omnimedia and new Chamber Chair opened the meeting. Ted McGee of McGee Real Estate gave the invocation. Kay Plumbing was the sponsor.

Angelle LaBorde, Chamber President introduced Town Councilman Ron Williams, Byron Thomas, representing Congressman Joe Wilson, Town Administrator Britt Poole and special guests: Jayne Baker, Capital City Lake Murray Country, and Scott Powers, Columbia Sports Council

Guest speaker was Dept. of Parks, Recreation & Tourism Director Duane Parrish. He has dedicated more than 40 years to the hospitality industry, including hotel property management and development. He has led SC’s tourism industry through continued positive development and record-breaking economic growth. With travel and tourism on the rise this was a timely topic.

Angelle said Sherri Siler will join Jill Gibson and Adam Deloach in recruiting new businesses. Sherri has worked with the Aiken Chamber in a similar position.

The new board directors are Alex Huggins, Mortgage Sales Manager, First Community Bank, Eli Lykes, owner of Palmetto Café & Defender Firearms & Training, Shirley Towne, Executive Director of BNI of the Midlands and 24/7 Total Protection. Ambassador of the Month was David Hayth of Lake Murray Lifestyle magazine.

Next month’s meeting will be August 10.
