Batesburg attempted-murderer sentenced

Kadarian Rasheem Smith, 19, has been convicted for the home invasion, attempted strangulation, and sexual assault of a 65 year old Batesburg woman.

Smith entered a plea in Lexington County General Sessions Court to Attempted Murder, Criminal Sexual Conduct – First degree, and Burglary – First degree.

Circuit Court Judge Eugene C. Griffith, Jr. imposed concurrent sentences of 30 years on each charge.

These crimes are classified as violent and are “no parole” offenses.

Fatal Shooting in Swansea

Harry Lee Jackson, Jr., 34, of Gaston has died due to a gunshot wound, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.

The incident occurred in the 100 block of North Church Street shortly after 8 pm Nov. 23.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.

Driver killed on US 1

Lexington Police are investigating a fatal collision Nov. 15 at Augusta Road (US-1) and Morgan Drive.

In the 4-vehicle collision, a driver was killed and 2 others injured.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office identified the fatality as Rusty Wayne Shull Jr., 22, of Columbia.

Investigators found that Ted O. McGee Jr., 79, of Lexington, was making a left turn from Morgan Drive onto Augusta Road when Shull’s vehicle hit him. Mc-Gee was charged with failure to yield right of way.

Sexual misconduct with minor

Michael Todd Slater of West Columbia has been charged with 1 count of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor 1st degree and two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor 3rd degree.

Slater was taken into custody without incident Nov. 21.
