Opposites attract in a dreams-come-true novel

Posted

Linda Sauls is coauthor of “Maverick Entrepreneurs’ Million Dollar Strategies,” a busy Lexington sales executive and avid reader. She recommends you read “The Cottages on Silver Beach” by RaeAnne Thayne.

RaeAnne Thayne is not one of those people who knew from birth that they were destined to become writers. She had other dreams besides writing.

Becoming an actress or a teacher or a lawyer was part of her plan.

Life took a different turn when her mother made her take a journalism elective in high school. After graduating from college as a journalism major, she took a job at the local daily newspaper and reveled in the challenge and the diversity of it.

Writing mentally

Through it all – through the natural progression of her career from reporter to editor – she wrote stories in her head. Not just any stories, either, but romances, the kind of books she had devoured since junior high.

She enjoyed tales about real people going through the trials and tribulations of life until they found deep and lasting love.

Thayne sold her first book in 1995 and now, more than 40 books later she has come to love everything about writing. She lives amid the raw beauty of the northern Utah mountains and writes full-time.

Thayne writes quaint romances with heart, big families and close-knit friends. She values her talent for making relationships work, no matter the obstacles.

This gift illustrates hope, dreams coming true and working together to make life’s moments as precious as possible. As a fan, I can’t help but glean positive messages from each of her books.

Her 1st book

Megan Hamilton’s real job is running her family’s vacation rentals in Silver Beach. The Inn and cottages are how she makes a living. It’s not the job she wanted, but someone had to save the business after Megan’s grandmother passed away. Megan was determined to keep the rental cottages filled and make the business profitable.

Family bonds

Elliot Bailey’s family and Megan’s family have spent many summers together at the Cottages at Silver Beach.

The two families bonded together over common interest in their children.

Megan’s brother Luke and Elliot were best friends. Elliot Bailey has always had some sort of feelings for Megan Hamilton but wasn’t able to do anything about it due to the fact she was dating his brother.

Elliot turns

his back on Megan’s family when her brother’s wife goes missing. She is suffering from postpartum depression.

A cold case

Suspicion and talk have followed Luke for 7 years. Elliot thinks that Luke played a part in her disappearance. Elliot has come home to heal from a gun shot wound and think about his career with the FBI.

The Cottages on Silver Beach mixes great characterization with interesting settings adding an unsolved missing person case that rattles everyone’s theories.

Elliot’s father, the police chief and team officers were unable to solve the case before his death.

This book was written as though you were reading two different books. Megan and Elliot are opposites with absolutely nothing in common – but as the story continues we learn just how connected these two really are.

The cold case is the thread woven through this contemporary romance. It’s amazing how many lives can be affected by one unsolved mystery and how devastating it can make the life of those presumed guilty.

“Megan and Elliot are opposites with absolutely nothing in common, but we learn just how connected they really are.”
