A Lexington woman was arrested and charged with buying stolen goods from a law enforcement agent at the US #1 Metro Flea Market.
Maria Lim Smith, 70, had more than $15,000 worth of stolen merchandise when she was arrested Oct. 31.
Lexington PD identified several subjects who were shoplifting $3,000 to $5,000 in merchandise each week to support a heroin dependency.
Smith was buying the stolen goods and reselling them at the Augusta Road flea market and to buyers around the state.
Lexington PD detectives searched the US #1 Metro Flea Market, Smith’s home and vehicle. They recovered the stolen merchandise – mainly over-the-counter medications and personal hygiene items.
Smith was given a personal recognizance bond.
Chief Terrence Green thanked Walmart Global Investigations, CVS Health, Publix Supermarkets ORC Investigations, Lowes Foods Asset Protection and Food Lion Retail Business Services Investigations for their support in helping close the case.
