Do you drive a moped? Know someone who does? You’ll need to get it registered ASAP. Due to a change in law effective Nov. 19, anybody who owns or buys mopeds must register them with the SC Department of Motor Vehicles. Law enforcement officers may ticket you for unregistered mopeds. The DMV began issuing moped plates and registration Nov. 1. The plate will be mailed with a registration card and decal. The cost is $10 every 2 years. Form 400-M will be used to register mopeds. Mopeds are not required to be titled or insured. Anyone 15 years or older is required to obtain a moped license from the DMV. To obtain a license, you take a written test but no driving test.
