Is your child autistic and in need of work.?

The Unumb Center for Neurodevelopment may be able to help. The center is named for the family of Lorri Shealy Unumb, a Lexington native and mother of an autistic child.

The center’s preemployment transition program is for SC residents age 13-21 who have a documented diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder.

The 2 semester-sessions will begin Aug. 26 with weekly meetings on Thursday evenings. The program includes counseling, workbased learning, instruction in self-advocacy and workplace readiness.

The simulation involves t-shirt designing and printing real shirts at The Unumb Center Print Shop at 1505 Blanding St., Columbia.

An assessment will see if The Unumb Center can meet their needs.

The Unumb Center is resuming in-person social skills groups beginning Sept. 13.

Those age 4 to 21 with social skills deficits are welcome regardless of diagnosis. Topics include conversation, making friends, problem-solving, and avoiding bullying.
