Produce recalled for possible listeria contamination

Lexington county shoppers should be cautious.

Southern Specialties Inc.of Pompano Beach, Florida is recalling certain produce, WISTV reported Tuesday.

The products have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, according to the FDA.

The FDA says Listeria monocytogenes are organisms which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Listeria can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women, along with other symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea to healthy individuals.

Affected products include:

• Marketside - Bagged Green Beans, 32oz.

• Marketside - Bagged Green Beans, 12 oz.

• Marketside - Bagged Butternut Squash, 16oz.

No illnesses have been associated with this recall, says the FDA.
