River flooding closes Cayce Riverwalk

Heavier than normal rainfall is affecting our rivers.

The Congaree Riverkeeper reported the Congaree crested at flood stage Sunday morning at just over 29 feet.

The water was so high from flooding that residents in Cayce’s Riverland Park had to be evacuated. The Cayce Riverwalk, Timmerman Trail and West Columbia Riverwalk were closed.

The river was receding by Monday morning, but additional rain Tuesday caused the Lower Saluda to remain high.

Dominion Energy continues to release water to bring down the Lake Murray water level.

“With the Congaree River continuing to rise as we get more runoff from the areas north of us, please heed all safety precautions and stay tuned to our Cayce social media sites for the latest updates,” The City of Cayce said Saturday.

Cayce Public Safety closed Old State Road, Granite Hill Road at Brook Cliff, and 12th Street Ext at Amazon, late Saturday afternoon. Those roads, except for part of 12th Street Extension, were reopened.

The City of Cayce said once the water subsides and the Riverwalk path is clear, it will be reopened.
