The 1st school threat in Lexington County this year was reported at Sandhills Middle School.

Sandhills school resource officer Deputy Bryant responded Jan. 24 to a classroom disturbance in which a 13-year-old student made threats to kill another student.

According to police reports, the student got into a verbal altercation with a 16-year-old student in the special needs class.

The suspected student drew a image that depicted him choking another student until death, reports state. The drawing also included “cuss words and racist terminology.”

The student was charged with making a student threat and was released to the custody of his mother.

District 4 spokesperson Jay Lindler said the student has been suspended in accordance with the school handbook and district policy.

This is the 2nd threat reported at Sandhills Middle since the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year. The 1st occurred Sept. 19 when a student brought a knife to school.

At least 25 school threats have been reported in the county since the start of the school year.
