Were you a victim of cybercrime in 2020? The annual report from the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center found 791,790 complaints in 2020. The complaints were about suspected internet crime. This was over 300,000 complaints more than in 2019.
The FBI noted business email compromise, phishing and ransomware.
Our state was 27th in the US with 5,853 suspected internet crimes in 2020. In financial loss, SC was 30th, with $25,244,978 lost to suspected internet crime.
Who were the victims? The FBI said those under 20 lost $156,208, 20-29 year olds $2,075,921, 30-39 years $2,181,616, 40- 49 years l3,786,139, 50-59 $3,780,277 and over 60 $9,987,360.
