SC High School League announces precautionary steps for winter sports

The start of winter sports means new approved guidelines by the SC High School League.

Basketball practices began Nov. 2 with scrimmages starting on Thursday and regular-season games commenc ing Nov. 30.

The 29th annual Lady Murray Tipoff is set for Nov. 23-25, with all games taking place at Lexington HS.

Wrestling practices began Monday, with scrimmages starting Nov. 30 and matches begin on Dec. 14. Wrestling will start in Phase 1.5 which means no contact drills, followed by regular practices on Nov. 16.

Other regulations include:

•The maximum spectators allowed at an indoor event is 50 percent or 250 persons, whichever is lower, per the Governor’s Executive Order.

•The league requires masks to be worn at all times, aside from athletes who are actively competing.

•Mats will be cleaned in between matches and gyms will be cleaned before and after basketball games. The league also requires 6 feet of social distancing to be followed by spectators and coaches.

•Daily health screenings of athletes, coaches and staff by a health care professional or designated fulltime district/school employee.

•A 2-day buffer between regularseason contests excluding tournaments.

•An individual can’t participate if they show high fever, signs of illness (coughs, diarrhea, sore throat or loss of smell) or contact with someone with the virus in previous 14 days.
