Sound advice for foodaholics

Today may be a good time to do some reflection about what is going well for you and what areas you are still struggling with.

Look for the “bright spots” in your week. Bright spots are the things that are going right. Identify what is going well, and do more of that. Use your bright spots as a foundation and build from there.

During your reflection you may ask yourself about your relationship with food…

Do you view food as something that makes you feel better when you are stressed, sad, lonely, bored, or even happy?

Do you reward yourself with food?

Is food your enemy?

Is food the fuel that keeps your body strong and functioning optimally?

Do you abuse your body with food?

Food does not make your stress go away or change your feelings about a situation or a person. It is only a short-term fix to increase your “feel good” hormone known as serotonin.

If you start to view food as fuel for your body so that you can perform and function at your most optimal level, it will likely change what you eat.

You can’t perform or function well on a standard American diet, which consists of high intakes of red meat, processed meat, prepackaged foods, butter, fried foods, high-fat dairy products, eggs, refined grains, potatoes, corn and high-sugar drinks.

As you reflect back on your week, ask yourself how you can improve your relationship with food this coming week.

Lastly, look at your calendar for the upcoming week and identify any potential obstacles. Come up with a solution that supports your goals and is detox-friendly.
