Special campers learn important skills

Posted

Four Lexington area children recently returned home from a week at Camp Sertoma.

Located on Lake Hartwell at the Clemson Outdoor Laboratory, the camp puts special focus on children that may have some level of hearing impairment.

The week-long program challenges these youth ages 7-13 on the athletic field, in the woods, and on the water to stimulate development of the child’s inner strength.

Campers develop leadership, teamwork, perseverance, understanding of and love for others.

The Lexington Sertoma Club fully sponsors campers every year, as they have done for over 30 years.

The club is able to fund the campers and provide other community needs through fundraising events such as the annual golf tournament and a Big Thursday USC vs. Clemson themed banquet coming up on October 18.

The kids were joined by their families and club representatives at the conclusion of the camp week where they all met counselors, watched skits, toured facilities and enjoyed a picnic lunch together.
