The National Weather Service advises not to let Hurricane Michael fool you.

It is only half the intensity of Hurricane Florence, but it can do heavy damage and bring flooding rains to Lexington County this week.

Prepare for dangerous wind that can damage roofs and siding, porches, awnings, carports, and sheds.

Forecasters expected tornados and flooding here.

• Check emergency supplies to protect your family.

• If you are in a place vulnerable to high wind, near large trees or in a manufactured home, plan to move to a safer shelter.

• If you live near a pond or large inland lake, in a low-lying or poor drainage area, move to safer shelter.

• Bring in lawn furniture and other outside items.

• Closely monitor NOAA Weather Radio, local news outlets and www.weather.gov

• Turn your refrigerator or freezer to the coldest setting and open only if needed.

• Charge your cell phone.

• Stock emergency kits with flashlights, batteries, cash and first aid supplies.
