Stop the world, I want to get off

That was the name of a Broadway musical in the ’60s.

But the phrase caught on because its meaning was preposterous, yet easily understood.

Do you remember the playground merrygo-rounds?

Oh, the poor 3rd graders on one of those things when some 8th grader came along and made it spin until kids starting flying off of it like Frisbees.

Many a kid cried out, “Stop! I want to get off!”

But do you remember that if you were in the center of the merrygo-round you would not feel like you were moving nearly as fast as if you were on the outer edge?

The earth is the same way.

If you are at the equator you will be traveling through space at about 1,000 mph in order for the earth to make one rotation on its axis!

But if you are standing exactly on the north pole at the tip of the axis, it would take you an entire day just to turn completely around one time.

Do you ever feel like screaming, “Stop the world, I want to get off!”?

Our world is changing very fast, and we can sometimes feel like we are on the outer edge and not sure if we can hang on.

In order to combat this feeling, you need to find where the axis is and go there.

If you want your life to be stable, under control, not on the verge of “flying off the handle” then you need to find the axis.

Axis (akses): a straight central part in a structure to which other parts are connected.

God must be your axis, the central part to which you need to be connected.

If your life is close to God via His Son Jesus, you will be on the same spiritual planet as others, but you won’t be spinning as fast.

James 1:17 says that with God there is no changing nor “shadow of turning.”

Acts 17:28 says, “For in Him we live and move and have our being.”

So, go with God!
