This month is awareness for Down Syndrome.

In our genes we carry the codes that help us inherit traits from our mother and father.

The nucleus of each cell contains 23 chromosomes.

Half are inherited from your mother and half from your father.

There are rare situations where individuals receive a full or partial extra copy of Chromosome 21.

This is where Down Syndrome occurs.

Down Syndrome causes low muscle tone, upward slant in the eyes, etc.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Nicole Ashford Weston who is blessed with a child with Down Syndrome. Her daughter Tailyn Weston was born Jan. 13, 2014.

Every day since birth she has been met with many challenges but remains strong. She started walking around 3 years old.

After 4 years of speech therapy, she can now control and use words.

She and her mother are a part of the Buddy Walk with Family Connections. This is one of her biggest celebrations. They call her Princess Tailyn.

They are active members for the cause. She loves playing dress up and applying makeup.

They treat Tailyn normally like her other siblings. She is determined to live the best life.

We love having you in this world Tailyn, you and many others help us remember beauty comes in many forms.

To all with Down Syndrome, you are beautiful. Remember, if you ever see a child struggling with a task, lend a helping hand. You never know what they may be dealing with.
