A pair of berths in the state American Legion baseball tournament starting Monday is up for grabs for 4 Midlands teams.

The now Best-of-3 series between Lexington Post 7 versus West Columbia Post 79 and Chapin/Newberry Post 193/24 against Camden Post 17 were slated to begin Monday. Rainfall caused both Game 1s to be pushed back to Tuesday.

Lexington is coming off a 1st round bye earned after winning the 3-way tiebreaker with Chapin/Newberry and Camden. West Columbia completed a Best-of-3 series with Aiken Post 26 which went the distance.

The host team won the 1st 2 games before Post 79 routed Aiken 14-4 in 5 innings of the deciding contest at South Aiken High School.

Lexington (10-4) and West Columbia (7-8) split the 2 regular-season meetings, each winning at home. Chapin/Newberry (9-5) won both regular-season meetings against Camden (11-3), which has won 9 of its last 10 games.

The winners of the 2 respective series will advance to the opening round of the 8-team, double elimination state tournament to start at a site to be determined. Days 3 through 5 of the tournament are scheduled to take place at Segra Park. West Columbia won last year’s SC American Baseball Summter League title.
