Were you in front of your TV Sunday afternoon? All golf fans were watching and cheering for their favorite in the Augusta National Masters Golf Tournament. With a backdrop of azaleas in full bloom, golfers had gone through practice rounds and competition. With all aspiring for the green jacket, Japanese contender Hideki Matsuyama earned the title. The first Japanese to win, he said he was thrilled to take this honor home.

Lexington has an accomplished sports person in Maggie O’Hara, a gymnast and daughter of Michele and Matt O’Hara and a graduate of River Bluff High. Maggie began training at a Lexington gymnastic academy and a Charlotte academy. Maggie graduated from Michigan State and is now seeking her Master’s in kinesiology, the science of exercise, at the University of Arkansas.

Maggie has qualified to compete at the NCAA National Championships in Fort Worth, TX April 16-17 on the uneven bars.

She is the 3rd Gymback and 1st since 2010 to qualify as a specialist on bars.

Her parents often travel to her competitions. Brothers Sean and Daniel and sister, Gracie help in their family restaurant.

Matt says, “We are a competitive family.”

Saturday was perfect for the 9th annual Herb Festival at our Lexington County Museum. Museum Director JR Fennell, said they may have had more attend this year.

Docent Mike Spears showed guests around and gave information. Food vendors, baked goods, plants, herbs and crafts were for sale. Proceeds help support The Herb Bunch Scholarship Fund. Beverly Kleckly and staff made it successful,

An enjoyable event last week was the State of the Art Gallery and Pottery Studio, 200 N. State St. in historic Cayce. They featured the water colors, oils, acrylics and colorful note cards of the Charleston Silver Lady, Dawn Corley. Also on display was work by exceptional SC potter Levi Wright.

It was great to see Dawn, husband Chuck Corley, the Richard Chewnings and Melissa Rawl and many others.

Have you visited downtown Lexington after 5 pm? At one time, the town closed down when offices and stores closed. Presently, Main St. is thriving with restaurants and entertainment in the evening. Local residents are enjoying getting out. Last Thursday, many were out at the amphitheater/new pavilion for the concert by popular Finesse Band. This Thursday Band of Oz will perform. All are free.
