Try slapjacks for Thanksgiving

Iam thankful the week before Thanksgiving for quite a few things—good memories of family gatherings, and tasty treats. My favorite old Slap Jack recipe from the 1800s is quite yummy with real molasses or honey. You need to mix a quart of milk with a pint of cornmeal, 4 tablespoons of flour, 3 eggs, a teaspoon of salt, tablespoon of molasses, and fry them in some good ole lard. This makes delicious pancakes that beat any processed, store-bought pancakes any day! Try some this holiday season!

Crooked Creek’s Holiday Market is November 23, 8:30 am-2:30 pm. The Sleigh Bell Stroll is November 25 at 6 pm. and November 26, 7 pm at Saluda Shoals Park.

The Riverbanks zoo is aglow with one million twinkling, colorful Christmas lights. Enjoy the festive displays mailto:liesha.huffstetler@gmail.com 5-9 nightly.

What did the ladies wear in the 1860s? The high fashion of the day included hoop skirts and lots of layers. Take a trip back in time at the Dutch Fork Historical Society meeting and see what was considered stylish in the old days! The meeting is at 6 pm at the Chap-in Library.

Did you play instruments in high school or college band? Do you want to play music for fun and enjoy the company of other musicians? The Lexington Community Band needs you! It performs 2 free concerts a year. If you are interested, visit www.Lexingtoncommunityband.org for information.
