Unemployment claims drop

Initial unemployment claims filed in South Carolina dropped by 126 from the previous week.

Lexington County had 153 initial claims filed.

Greenville County had a state-high 363 initial claims, while Richland County saw 314. Horry County had 295, Spartanburg County 196 and Charleston County 178.

127,139 SC claimants received an average of $227.42 in weekly benefits. Nationally, initial claims increased by 31,000 from the previous week to 742,000, according to the US Department of Labor.

Sunshine Cafe, located at 2250 Sunset Blvd., West Columbia, has reopened after 6 months of closing due to the corona virus.

The restaurant has added new menu items and new holiday dessert specials.

D’s Wings moving to West Cola?

Is D’s Wings moving from Parkland Plaza in Cayce to West Columbia?

All indications suggest the popular restaurant will move to a building adjacent to West Columbia’s Interactive Art Park and Artisan Market at 425 Meeting Street.

While an official announcement has not been made, the speculation is rampant via word-on-the-street and social media, reported the Chronicle’s Terry Ward.

West Columbia Mayor Tem Miles posted a photo of the would-be-new location of D’s on his Facebook page.

Dominion helps the hungry

During Dominion Energy South Carolina’s annual food drive, employees contributed more than $5,500.

The money will provide more than 27,000 meals for South Carolinians struggling with food insecurity and hunger.

The contributions will support the missions of Harvest Hope Food Bank in the Midlands, Lowcountry Food Bank (LCFB) in Charleston and Golden Harvest Food Bank in Aiken and its surrounding areas.

Tech career fair

The SC Council on Competitiveness, SC Codes, and Tallo will host an online technology career fair Dec. 8.

Participating companies will be able to post openings and set job requirement priorities in order to be matched with qualified job seekers.

This SC Tech Career Fair is open to all SC technology companies, or companies seeking to fill technology positions, ranging from entry-level tech support to senior-level programmers and beyond.

Doggy day care opens

Central Bark has opened at 2931 Augusta Road in West Columbia.

It’s across from ALDI at the intersection of Methodist Park Road, the Chronicle’s Terry Ward reported.

Central Bark provides proper exercise, social group play, learning, rest, and TLC to help your dog be a healthy, happy, calm, and well-rounded member of your family.

It also provides grooming, training, sleepovers and more.

Store hours are 7 am to 6:30 pm.

European Foods opens

Looking for a taste of Britain, Germany or Eastern Europe?

European Foods opened its doors Saturday at 5495 Sunset Blvd. Suite A, formerly the location of Crown Jewell formal dresses.

The owner of the new spot was a cashier at the now-closed European Market, and decided to launch her own store, with encouragement from patrons of the old place.

The store will be open from 9 am -7 pm Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am - 3 pm on Sunday and closed on Monday.
