What could be more encouraging than being told that your chances of (fill in the blank) are next to nothing then to be reminded of past miscalculations?

I was sent down this rabbit trail by the amazing comeback win of Tiger Woods at this year’s Masters Championship.

After 10 years of decline and multiple knee and back surgeries, virtually all the commentators had declared Tiger Woods’ career over. But now he is back on top of the heap in golf at age 43.

Who else got it wrong?

In 1895, Albert Einstein’s teacher said that he would never amount to anything.

Who can forget in 2015 Bill Maher asking Ann Coulter who was the most likely candidate to win the presidency in 2016?

She confidently predicted Donald Trump.

That brought down the house in laughter.

Lance Armstrong at 25 was one of the best pro cyclists in the world. Then he was diagnosed with testicular cancer and given a 40% chance to live.

He fought back to win 7 straight Tour de France races.

Proverbs 21:1 says, “A king’s heart is a water stream that the LORD controls; He directs it wherever He pleases.”

We need to remember that our futures are not really in our hands. Even very wise doctors or experts in their fields cannot always predict the outcome of the bleakest of situations.

But the greatest comeback of all, against all odds after he was falsely arrested, wrongfully imprisoned, beaten, sentenced to die, executed, and buried…was made by a Jew named Jesus of Nazareth who rose from the dead.

Be encouraged no matter what you are facing.

Trust in Jesus is the surest of bets. He can prove all wrong those who have given up on you!
