Dutch Fork, Gray Collegiate players shine on the diamond to win Athlete of the Week

Posted

The field is shrinking and this week’s Athlete of the Week winners delivered huge performances to keep their teams competing in the postseason.

This week’s winners excelled on the diamond and helped their teams win their district and advance in the SCHSL baseball and softball playoff brackets.

Voting for Athlete of the Week runs from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday each week at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek.

Matthew Rollison

Dutch Fork baseball’s Matthew Rollison helped the Silver Foxes defeat Fort Mill to claim the District Two title and advance to the upper state bracket.

Rollison hit two home runs for the Silver Foxes in their 10-6 win. His first came off a grand slam in the fourth inning, and he followed that up with a solo shot in the sixth. For the game, Rollison was 3-4 from the plate with five RBIs.

The senior’s contributions did not stop at the plate. He also finished the game on the mound for the Silver Foxes. Rollison pitched three full innings, gave up two hits, no runs and had two strikeouts.

Dutch Fork’s playoff run concluded late last week after consecutive losses to Lexington and Dorman in the upper state bracket, ending a solid Silver Fox career for Rollison.

Aspen Boulware

Aspen Boulware’s effort on the field helped the Gray Collegiate softball team win the 2A District Four bracket and advance to the upper state portion of the playoffs.

Boulware helped Gray pick up two postseason wins last week, hitting a home run in each. She went 2-2 from the plate in a 12-1 win over Ninety Six and followed that with a 2-3 plate performance in an 11-1 win against Strom Thurmond.

Gray is off to a good start this week, picking up a 12-1 win on May 13 against Saluda to advance to the upper state championship. Boulware went 2-3 with three runs and two RBIs. The team will return to action on May 17 with a shot at advancing to the 2A state championship series.
